Apple Pie Filling

Yum!

If you could just smell my kitchen. Apple pie, cinnamon, nutmeg. Apple Pie Filling is going to be a staple in this house. I can feel it. I'm not even going to make a pie with it. I'm going to put it on.

  • Waffles
  • Pancakes
  • Ice Cream
  • French Toast
  • Granola
  • Pound Cake

5 medium sized thinly sliced apples (peeled and cored)
2-1/2 tsp (13 ml) lemon juice
1 cup (200 g) sugar
1/2 cup (60g) flour
1/2 tsp (3 ml) ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp (2 ml) salt
1/8 tsp (1ml) ground nutmeg
2-1/2 cups (600 ml) water

Slice the apples thin into a bowl. Add the lemon juice and set aside.

In a pot on the stove add the water, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. It will start to thicken right away so stir constantly. Bring to a boil and let boil for 2 minutes, keep stirring.

Add the apples and lemon juice.

Bring back to a slow boil cover, reduce heat and simmer for 8-10 minutes.
Check at 5 minutes.

Cool for 30 minutes. Now you can do whatever with it. Make a pie, can it, put it in sealed containers and freeze or my favorite serve over vanilla ice cream.
