Today we are in the busy city of Stormwind to interview King
Varian Wrynn. Thank you King Wrynn for joining us.
The king smiles and nods.
TGF: The Gamer’s Fridge would also like to welcome Prince Anduin.
Anduin waves.
TGF: My readers are anxious to know King Wrynn, What is your
favorite meal?
KV: Chicken a la KING because I am the KING!! Have you seen
my sword? It is the only one of it’s kind…
Anduin: …Dad
KV: …melded together by the breath of Onyxia….
Anduin: Dad…Get down off the table.
KV: When I alone killed THE DRAGON QUEEN!
Anduin: Yes Father, you alone with 39 other people. Now, put
the chair down.
Auduin: He’s having a Lo’Gosh day today, I apologize. It’s
his two halves in constant conflict. These days seem to be more and more prevalent. When he gets like this I wish bubbles were
sound proof.
KV: DEATH TO THE HORDE!! (King Wrynn slashes at the air with his massive sword)
Anduin: I anticipated this and took the liberty of requesting
my father chef to show you how to prepare this dish. Please, right through
those doors is the kitchen.
TGF: As I walk towards the kitchen I can see King Varien in mock
battle with a paper cutout of the Warchief Thrall.
Here its is folks, straight from the kitchen of Stormwind.
You will need:
1 sheet of puff pastry
Egg wash for the puff pastry
1 egg
2 tbs milk
For the Chicken a la King:
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup of onions, chopped
1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms (if you are using canned mushrooms, add them later with the other veggies)
1 cup peas (canned or frozen)
1 cup carrots, sliced (canned or frozen)
1 cup chicken broth (I used a bouillon cube and 1 cup of hot water)
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cooked, cubed chicken breast meat
1 cup sour cream
2 eggs
salt and pepper to taste
Remember in the Genn Greymane's Beef Wellington when I said "Put the second sheet in the freezer, You'll need it for another recipe at a later date." This recipe is what I was talking about.
The puff pastry takes about 30 minutes to thaw or you can put it in the fridge over night and it will be ready to go come dinnertime.
This recipe has a lot of pictures to it but do not be afraid, it only takes about 30-40 minutes from start to sitting down to eat.
1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
Cut into 6 pieces and placed on a cookie sheet.
And brushed with an egg wash:
1 egg and 2 tbs milk stirred
(set aside, you will use with the chicken)
Bake in 400 degree F (204 degrees C) oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown
While the puff pastry is in the oven.
Melt 2 tbs of butter in a skillet and add the onions and fresh mushrooms. (If you are using canned mushrooms, do not add them now)
Add the 2 chicken breasts now and cook with the onions and mushrooms. Cover for 15 minutes until chicken is cooked through.
When the chicken is done, cut it up.
Take the egg wash you used for the puff pastry and add another egg and 1 cup of sour cream.
Stir until combined.
In the pan that you saute the onions and mushrooms. Add the 1 cup of chicken broth and 2 tbs of flour.
Stir until thickens.
This is what it will look like thickened about 3-5 minutes later.
Add the cooked chicken and stir until covered.
Add sour cream and egg mixture. Heat until sauce starts to bubble, remove from heat.
Drain before adding. Add one cup of (canned or frozen) peas and one cup of (canned or frozen) sliced carrots and canned mushrooms.
Place baked puff pastry on a plate.
Spoon chicken a la king over puff pastry.
Yum!
Hmm I do have some puff pastry laying around in the freezer.....
